Our Story

We are raising money in memory of Chloe Poirier, who lived almost her entire life with childhood cancer. She was diagnosed at 20 months at the Hospital for Sick Children and died June 28, 2021 at the age of 16. Throughout her treatments, surgeries, radiation she maintained her deadpan sense of humour and her love of practical jokes. By the time she was 11 she required the use of oxygen 24/7 and also needed a wheelchair to help with her mobility. She was also had a feeding tube and used a BiPaP while sleeping because her CO2 levels were very high. But, the one thing she LOVED was going to camp. She couldn’t wait to go back every summer. She said that camp changed her life. She could be her true authentic self there and it didn’t matter because all the campers either had or were on active treatment. She said she found a place where she belonged. As her mother, this touched me so much. I now honour Chloe by flying to Toronto to participate in this event. Sending as many kids as possible to camp is my goal.Last year I was fortunate enough to volunteer at the camp and experience firsthand the magic that Chloe felt. Any amount that you can give to help send a child with cancer to camp would be greatly appreciated.

Description

Help deliver healing through happiness to kids with cancer or serious illness and their families.

When a child is diagnosed with cancer or serious illness, it impacts the whole family. Kids miss out on simple childhood joys, household incomes are often cut in half as caregivers take on the full-time responsibility of caring for a sick child, and families struggle to make time for special experiences.

When you donate to Campfire Circle you are supporting in-hospital, community and overnight camp programs that create opportunities for children to build friendships and social skills, develop self-confidence and resiliency, and improve their overall well-being. Through play-based experiences, you are helping empower kids to take back their childhood, regardless of their medical diagnosis.

With your support, we can continue to offer our programs at no cost to families and grow our circle of care to provide additional play-based experiences across all four paediatric hospitals, and improve our medically supported and accessible overnight camps so that every eligible child can benefit from our innovative and impactful programs.

Thank you for helping to build a world where children thrive and families heal.
