Join me and make a difference in childhood cancer!
On October 20th, 2024 I and 6 of my family members will be running a Half Marathon (Toronto Waterfront Marathon). In April of 2023, our extended family lost Jackie at the age of 17 to Brain Cancer. It is always tough when we lose a loved one to Cancer, but it is even more heartbreaking when Cancer takes the vibrant life of someone so prematurely. While I never met Jackie I was told that she was a lover of sport, and music and she truly had a heart of gold. As a family, we decided to run this race in Jackie's honour and raise money for a childhood cancer organization in Ontario (POGO) to support other families who are forced to fight the fight with their children as well. I and Team Jackie kindly ask for your support and thank you in advance!
Description
There are over 4,300 families in Ontario with a child in cancer treatment or follow-up care each year. More than 80% of children diagnosed with cancer in Ontario will survive, but many of these survivors will experience complications either due to the disease itself, complex surgical procedures, or the rigorous rounds of radiation and chemotherapy they were given during treatment.
Funds raised will provide:
- financial assistance to families so they can pay for out-of-pocket costs associated with their child’s treatment
- support survivors with customized school and work counselling when their disease or its treatment has left them with learning challenges
- fund promising research that examines the impact of childhood cancer and its treatment.
Meet the Wynette’s and learn how they were supported by POGO through their childhood cancer journey.
Thank you for your support!
