My Story…
For this Father's Day, I wanted to show my appreciation towards both my dad and my grandpa. My grandpa risked everything to immigrate to Canada so that his future family could have a better life and more opportunities. My dad was travelling on the road for weeks out of the month for work so that my mom could stay at home to take care of me when I was growing up. Even though he was busy out providing for our family, he still made it to every important sports game or milestone of my life. I can't imagine how hard it was for my dad and grandpa. They were both selfless and worked extremely hard so that I could be fortunate enough to live my life the way it is now.
Sadly, my grandpa passed away 4 years ago due to prostate cancer and its associated comorbidities. I never really had a chance to say goodbye since it was covid and only 1 person was allowed to visit the hospital at the time. It happened so quickly because he was 90 years old, I don't think I even processed what happened.
Fast-forward to the present, my dad has early stage prostate cancer. The doctors are monitoring his lab results frequently and are trying to figure out the best course of treatment for him. Truthfully, I do not know what to think because I can't imagine a world without him. Given that prostate cancer is genetic, the possibility that this could also be my reality in the future scares me every day.
As such, I've started this fundraiser for prostate cancer research and awareness, in honour of my dad and grandpa. I want my dad to stay healthy and not go down the same road as my grandpa. I am hoping that doing a half-marathon can encourage my dad to exercise more, eat healthier, and stay strong for any treatment in the future, but also to motivate myself to stay active.
Thank you for any donation. I truly appreciate it and it means the world to me!
