My Story…
The TCS Toronto Marathon will be my first marathon, with a primary goal of raising money for charity, and in particular for Autism Ontario (though I have listed a handful of preferred charities to choose from, and hope at least one speaks to you).
I grew up running cross country but never ran more than 10k. A year ago in September I ran a slow and breathless 2km run near home. I set some goals to change this, running my first half marathon this April (1:48:08) and committing to a full marathon shortly thereafter. I #choosetorun with the hopes of fending off aging and to be there for my family, and as a form of meditation and problem solving for life's challenges.
My secondary goal is to complete the marathon in under 4 hours. I have a few private stretch goals that I'll keep to myself so I don't jinx them!
Autism Ontario and other autism support service organizations in Canada such as Kerry's Place have provided exceptional support to my parents over the years and have enriched the life of my brother Aidan, an adult living with a relatively challenging form of autism. Aidan has been exposed to a variety of sports, and is a passionate hockey player. Aidan feels the highs and lows of the Toronto sports scene with the best of them--probably more. These types of charities are often overlooked, despite featuring some of the most genuine, caring, gracious, and thoughtful people, and people who seek no fanfare. I would hope that you might consider making even a small donation that furthers the great work of these organizations.
A special thank you to my family for making room for odd-hours training in our lives, and thank YOU for your support.
Look for me in pink sunglasses on race day! 😎 🏃♂️🚀🚀🚀
