My Story…
Thank you so much for visiting my page.
I’ve always loved the challenge of plodding through a marathon, and the sense of achievement it brings is unbeatable. This year, I’m thrilled to be running a half marathon in support of The Stop, a charity dedicated to addressing food security and accessibility. I believe everyone deserves access to food, however this is sadly not the case in Toronto, this is why I’m very proud to be supporting The Stop. They also organise community gardens across Toronto, and as those who know me will know I love a garden! It is special how these gardens foster a sense of togetherness and encourage collaboration among community members.
Description
The Stop is an ideal charity partner because we believe that nutritious, sustainable, and culturally appropriate food is a human right for all. Between September 2023 and February 2024, we have delivered:
• 37,233 meals have been shared at our locations
• Over 1,000 visits to our Advocacy Office
• Seen a 39% increase in individuals needing support from our food bank for the same period year on year
As well as seeing an increase in need for our services, we’re also experiencing an increase in costs to run them. The cost of a food hamper in February 2023 cost $60 to produce. As of February 2024, that same hamper costs us $85.
