My Story…
LaMae was my smiley and mischievous niece, who I was fortunate enough to be uncle to for 473 days. Her dimpled smile was infectious and the only thing bigger than it was her appetite. She was just starting to learn to walk so she could keep up with her big sister.
Now, imagine getting a call in the middle of the day from daycare to learn that something is wrong with LaMae. When her Mom & Dad dropped her off that morning, everything seemed normal. They arrive in a panic and watch heroic first responders work to revive our precious LaMae. Despite everyone's best efforts, she slips away. Months later, there are still no answers as to what happened that day. Just the words "Sudden" and "Unexplained".
Most parents believe this cannot happen after 6 months of life. SIDS is an unlikely risk. However, as our families have learned, SUDC is real and impacts nearly 400 children every year in the U.S. More research is necessary to determine both the causes and methods of prevention. To that note, I have been asked by LaMae's parents, Allison and Jacob, to run the TC 10 Mile. My goal is simple - raise awareness and funds that can be directed towards research and support of families that have encountered this tragedy.
