My Story…
I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2022 and treated successfully. I spent most of 2023 living my life normally until a scan in December showed that I have a recurrence of cancer in my liver. This means that I am now in stage 4. This news was like a gut punch for me and my family.
My case should show that cancer can unfortunately happen to anyone regardless of age or lifestyle. I am not old, obese, or a smoker. I run and work out frequently and at the time of my diagnosis, I rarely drank alcohol (I now do not drink at all). Despite its reputation for being an ‘old man’s disease’, colon cancer is on the rise among younger people, and all of us deserve to have hope for ourselves and our families.
On May 11th, I will join other patients, survivors, carepartners and supporters for the annual Bum Run in Calgary in support of the Colon Cancer Resource Action Network (CCRAN). Organizations like CCRAN provide advice, peer-to-peer coaching, and moral support for patients. Please consider supporting me by making a donation. I love to run and I can’t wait to join with others who are fighting this disease.
Donate to help Eric raise money for Bumrun Calgary 2024’s fundraising campaign.
