Help Katie raise money

For participating in Emera Blue Nose Marathon

My Story…

Hi I'm Katie and I am running to raise money for Shelter Movers Nova Scotia. Shelter Movers Nova Scotia provides moving and storage services for survivors of abuse, to support them transition to a life free from violence. This includes supporting the existing services for women and children experiencing gender-based violence in the Halifax Regional Municipality, as well as the ongoing extension of services across the province to Colchester-Cumberland, Annapolis Valley, and the South Shore. The fundraising dollars will go directly to cover the cost to conduct each move so that more families can be supported.

Description

Shelter Movers is the only service of its kind in Canada, operating in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, South-Western Ontario, Calgary, Edmonton, Greater Moncton, Montreal and Nova Scotia. Over 2000+ volunteers across the country create a safe and empowering space for survivors of abuse to transition to a better life. Growing evidence suggests a significant long-term societal benefit when the cycle of violence is broken. Shelter Movers takes on the logistical, security and financial burden of moving and storing survivors’ belongings, allowing local social services (shelters, police and hospitals) to focus on their primary objectives. Since being established in 2016, we have completed over 6000 moves across Canada.
