I have been volunteering with Shelter Movers for more than a year and want YOUR help in making a bigger impact through the organization.
Shelter Movers NS provides moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse in HRM, the South Shore, the Annapolis Valley, and Colchester-Cumberland county.
Volunteers at Shelter Movers NS, have completed more than 400 moves since the chapter's inception in 2019. Every $250 raised covers the costs associated with moving one family to safety.
Social isolation and economic hardship from COVID-19 have significantly increased instances of abuse and violence against women. 34 women were murdered by their intimate partner in NS between 2001 and 2020.

Description
Shelter Movers is the only service of its kind in Canada, operating in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, South-Western Ontario, Calgary, Edmonton, Greater Moncton, Montreal and Nova Scotia. Over 2000+ volunteers across the country create a safe and empowering space for survivors of abuse to transition to a better life. Growing evidence suggests a significant long-term societal benefit when the cycle of violence is broken. Shelter Movers takes on the logistical, security and financial burden of moving and storing survivors’ belongings, allowing local social services (shelters, police and hospitals) to focus on their primary objectives. Since being established in 2016, we have completed over 6000 moves across Canada.
