My Story…
Raising funds for the American Association for Cancer Research
I am once again participating in the Philadelphia Marathon as part of the AACR's “Runners for Research” Team to raise money for cancer research.
Please consider donating to honor or in memory of some in your life.
Everyone knows someone who has or had cancer. Since I began running the Philadelphia Marathon in 1994, I’ve lost several friends to cancer. One of those friends was Terry North, a fellow distance runner from Harrisburg. Another was George McFall, a friend from high school who moved to Philadelphia and who I would often see on Race Weekend. And most recently, Marjolene Rose, a beloved sister in our church conference passed after a long battle with cancer.
Because of a devastating non-running related injury I suffered several years ago, I can no longer run as I did. And although even walking can be extremely painful, I still want to do whatever I can for cancer research by participating. My struggle has definitely been life-changing - for those fighting cancer, the struggle is life or death.

Because this will be both the 31st Anniversary of the Philadelphia Marathon as well as my 31st time running the event, my fundraiser campaign is entitled the "$31 for 31”. A $31 donation is NOT required - any amount will be greatly appreciated. Even a dollar can make a difference because 88 cents of every dollar donated to the American Association for Cancer Research goes directly to support lifesaving cancer research! During the past 31 years of this race, cancer mortality has declined by nearly 33%.
Please help support cancer research through the AACR.
