My Story…
Friends and family:
As some of you know, I continue my battle with a rare neuroendocrine cancer and the Canada Army Run is a way to stay fit and positive and give something back to the great military community that I served with. The Run is to be held in Ottawa on Sunday September 23. It is the same event as last year only this year I have expanded my goal from 10 km to the 21 kilometer half marathon.
More than anything, the Canada Army Run is about Canadians and the Canadian Armed Forces – Air Force, Army, and Navy – joining together in the spirit of camaraderie and community. It's a chance for the troops to extend the military esprit de corps to Canadians and to thank them for their support. And, it's an opportunity for Canadians to say thanks to the men and women who serve them in so many ways at home and abroad.
I feel blessed to have served for 22 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and to have survived without major health consequences. Indeed, in addition to getting a college education and rewarding career, I have made lifelong friends and memories.
Many of our team-mates in the CF have not been as fortunate as I have. Many have sacrificed so much more than I had to and continue to suffer to this day. Since 2008, through race proceeds and the fundraising efforts of participants, Canada Army Run has contributed over $4 million to Support Our Troops and Soldier On to care for our Canadian Armed Forces community and their families. This includes providing financial assistance to promote family resiliency and to support the recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration of members with a physical and/or mental illness or injury.
If you appreciate the need for this type of support in our community please consider giving a donation. Anything you can give will be most welcomed by our troops and veterans who might need it.
Sincerely,
Al McLuskie
Description
LET’S RUN, WALK & ROLL TOGETHER IN 2024
Welcome to Canada Army Run 2024! We are so excited that the Army Run family will be able to join hands again this year, both virtually and in-person to run, walk, or roll in support of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) community. We are counting on your support to join us in championing this important cause!
Canada Army Run offers Canadians the opportunity to come together and thank the CAF members who serve our nation both at home and abroad, and their families. Military families are directly affected by aspects of the military lifestyle of continuous relocations, absences, and transitions.
Support Our Troops and Soldier On, the official charitable causes of the Canadian Armed Forces, are the beneficiaries of the funds raised by Canada Army Run and its participants.
Support Our Troops helps members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans, and their families navigate the realities of military life through a variety of grants and programs designed to strengthen family resiliency and provide support to the ill and injured. Soldier On is a CAF program, which contributes to the recovery of ill and injured CAF members and veterans by providing opportunities and resources through sport, recreational, and creative activities. Since its creation in 2007, Soldier On has supported over 11,500 ill and injured CAF members and veterans using sport and physical recreational activities to enable social support, build confidence in their abilities and realize their full potential.
Your efforts will:
- empower youth to pursue their academic dreams
- maintain the dignity, independence, and well-being of families during financial hardship
- send children of military families to camp bringing them a renewed energy and a support network
- support ill and/or injured members in their rehabilitation and recovery through the transformative power of sport, recreation, and creative pursuits with the Soldier On Fund
The funds you raise will ensure that the members of the Canadian Armed Forces have access to the financial resources they need, when they need them the most. On behalf of our members in uniform – who do so much to keep us safe at home and abroad – Thank you for standing with us.
- habiliter les jeunes à concrétiser leur rêve de poursuivre des études;
- maintenir la dignité, l’autonomie et le bien-être des familles lors de difficultés financières;
- envoyer des enfants de familles de militaires à des camps, leur donnant un regain d’énergie et un réseau de soutien;
