Help Joanne raise money

Seven years ago, my husband Brendan donated his kidney to a stranger and I received one from a stranger through the kidney paired exchange program. For Brendan, he says it was the most extraordinary experience of his life.  For me, the transplant  was transformational – everyday it gives me life. And it gives me hope for another 40+ years to be my healthiest self.

I am one of the lucky ones. 36,000 Canadians live on dialysis, yet only 1,300 people receive a kidney transplant each year. Almost 3,000 others wait for a kidney on the deceased donor waiting list. Over 240 patients died while waiting last year.  

We are running the Yorkville 5k to continue our support of the Centre for Living Organ Donation and their efforts to bring hope to more Canadians by increasing the number of living donor transplants.  If one in 10,000 Ontarians donated a kidney, we could eliminate the waitlist.
