My Story…

Every 6 days, a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner. Join us in supporting families fleeing abusive relationships and stand up against domestic violence and all forms of gender-based violence. Victim Services Toronto provides services to 20,000 people each year. Our services help victims in the immediate aftermath of crime and sudden tragedy with crisis counselling, locating and arranging services, and resources to address immediate needs such as accommodation, transportation, food, to name a few. Help us in responding to the growing domestic violence epidemic in our city. Your generous contributions will help ensure families feeling abuse receive emergency crisis intervention, case management support services, and urgent necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, safety, and support services to rebuild their lives and live FREE of violence.

Description

We received a call from a young woman who was trapped in an apartment by her trafficker. In the middle of the night she escaped, stole a laptop and ran to Tim Hortons. She used their free wifi to find our crisis phone number and called us.  We immediately called her a taxi to come to our office. It was so late and she was exhausted, she slept on our couch. In the morning, once she had some rest, we fed her and she shared that she was pregnant and malnourished. We immediately took her to the hospital to receive critical medical attention. She couldn't remember her name. Once medically cleared, we found her safe accommodations, ongoing medical support, gift cards for food and connections to services to support her ongoing mental health needs.

This is just one example of the critical support Victim Services Toronto provides 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, helping more than 20,000 people each year. 100% of the funds you donate will go directly to supporting victims like this, get the essentials they need in order to rebuild their lives.

Thank you for your support and encouragement. We are so grateful.
