My Story…
2024 marks my 3rd year of running the Falmouth Road Race for Hospitality Homes. This incredible organization provides housing for patients and their families that travel to Boston hospitals for critical healthcare.
For my family and friends we have many personal stories where we have benefitted from our proximity to some of the best medical facilities in the world. Unfortunately not everyone has the same local opportunities.
This year (and second year in a row) I am running for Hospitality Homes in honor of Carol, a HH guest from North Carolina who was diagnosed with tracheobronchomalacia (TBM), a rare disease of her trachea and airways. What was expected to be a couple weeks stay extended significantly longer as Carol battled through multiple surgeries, procedures and complications. Through all of this, Carol's husband Brian stayed up in Boston with her. At the 40th anniversary celebration of Hospitality Homes last year, Brian told his story of how Hospitality Homes impacted his family. Through this organization, he was fortunate to stay an unprecedented 137 nights in a host home where he was able to be close to his wife while she received the life-saving treatment she needed.
More than a connected family to run for, last year I was fortunate to spend time with both Brian and Carol during a visit to Boston. In addition, with their amazing daughters, they cheered on runners at the Falmouth Road Race finish line and helped celebrate the accomplishment of myself and other Hospitality Homes runners.
On behalf of Carol, Brian and all other guests supported by Hospitality Homes, thank you for supporting my Falmouth run!
Description
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I'm so proud to be a member of TEAM HOSPITALITY HOMES in this year's Falmouth Road Race!
Your support means the world to me and will help continue to provide housing for patients and families traveling to Boston for critical medical treatment.
With the prohibitively expensive costs of local hotels- averaging $260 per night- and the lack of sufficient hospital- sponsored housing, many patients struggle with what to do, balancing these and other out-of-pocket expenses with the already high cost of responding to a complex or chronic illness.
Your donation is fully tax-deductible, as Hospitality Homes is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
