Fundraising for IBD Cures!
During the early days of the pandemic, when uncertainty loomed over us all, I faced a personal battle that tested my strength and resilience in ways I never imagined. It began with a mysterious illness that rendered me unable to hold down food or water for three months. The fear and uncertainty were overwhelming, however, I persevered until it was finally safe to enter a hospital.
After enduring significant weight loss and debilitating symptoms, I received a diagnosis that changed my life, Ulcerative Colitis. Ulcerative Colitis is a chronic disease of the large intestine, in which the lining of the colon becomes inflamed and develops tiny open sores, or ulcers. The road to recovery was daunting, filled with strong medications, pain, tears, and countless days spent tethered to the confines of a bathroom. Despite the challenges, I refused to let this illness define me.
As I gradually regained my health, an obstacle emerged: starting to train for my first collegiate soccer season and beginning my freshman year of college amidst strict COVID-19 policies. At the time of my diagnosis, just a few months before school, I could not train due to my illness. Locked away in isolation, the stress and anxiety mounted, exacerbating my condition. Yet, with unwavering determination and the support of my family, I was understood and loved.
Today, four years later, I stand as a testament to the power of resilience and hope. While I still rely on mild medication to manage my symptoms, I am thriving, and grateful for each day of remission. I owe immense gratitude to the dedicated medical professionals who guided me through the darkest days, as well as to my supportive circle of friends and family who lifted me up when I needed it most.
As I continue on this journey, my ultimate hope is for a cure. Until that day comes, I am committed to raising awareness and funds to support research efforts that will one day eradicate Ulcerative Colitis for good.
Join me in my mission to turn adversity into advocacy. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those facing similar challenges.
Thank you for your support.
