I'm running the Falmouth Road Race to END ALZ!
I run for my Mom. Another year has gone by, and this awful disease continues to rob my Mom of memories she cherished. This was a particularly hard year as she fell and broke her pelvis leading to a grueling 3 month recovery of pain and confusion. Gone are the memories of grandchildren, graduations, and weddings. This disease is so cruel. With every step of my training, my racing, I am motivated by knowing that scientists are studying this relentless disease and trying to find preventatives strategies and treatments while supporting those who sadly will not live to see effective treatments. My Mom adores my brother and I, our spouses, and her 7 beautiful grandchildren. She never missed one of my basketball games, a birthday, a graduation, or any family event. She made sure to recognize every achievement. She celebrated us and gave us unconditional love. This amazing woman went through tremendous adversity and just came out stronger and fiercer and I am forever grateful that she gave my brother and I that strength. We need it now, as we struggle to accept the horrors of this disease. I remain grateful that my Mom still remembers me, albeit with more reminders. I am grateful for her untouched sense of humor. And I am grateful that she taught me to be strong, to think positive, and to know how much she does and always will love me. "It is what it is, but it becomes what you make it". Her favorite quote, her mantra, gives me strength and positivity as she always taught us by example to make it awesome.
Thank you so much for your donation.
