My Story…
Woods Hole, the village the Falmouth Road Race begins, is the start of so many of my personal journeys in my life from work to hobbies. Running the route from Woods Hole, past Nobska Light and down to Falmouth Heights this year is about more than just running. It is here where my late Nana made me her famous brownies to share with my co-interns "so I would make friends" during my summer at MBL in Woods Hole and where my late Papa would excitedly show us around, taking us to the world famous MBL lab's touch tank. It is where I first did novel, presentable scientific research and where I first biked over 10 miles- starting my journey in endurance sports.
It is also where I began my recovery from bilateral (both legs) tibial (shin bone) stress fractures. The summer I interned there, 2012, I was happy to fully run 1 mile. And, it is where I began even more determined to be a runner.
This August, I get the honor of running this famed race while raising money for an organization near and dear to my heart called Dreamfar High School Marathon Team. After learning about this group from a former student, I joined to train for my first marathon alongside a group of AMAZING high school students in November of 2022. Through two marathons and hundreds of hours of running with these athletes I have seen first hand just how important the opportunity to join DreamFar is for the student athletes. We are a team of students, leaders and mentors who run together for fun, to build community, to build confidence and gain strength. It is a place for those who already see themselves as runners, and those who eventually will see themselves as such to bond, explore and have fun.
So, I fundraise to help as many students as possible access our program. Students are FULLY FUNDED by the fundraising we do, gain technical training, mental health guidance and friendship. They run up to three official races, learn proper nutrition from experts, hear from Boston Marathon winners, and are coached on how to keep themselves safe and healthy during the season. Your donation allows us to do all of this, and for that we say thank you:)
