I'm running the Falmouth Road Race to END ALZ!
Welcome to Dickie & Connor Donahue’s fundraising page.
Hello Friends,
I'm excited to share, Connor and I had a cool 70 degree day run of a lifetime on August 18th's 2024 Falmouth Road Race along its legendary course from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights with 11,400 runners. We appreciate your support running as part of Team End ALZ! Your generous donations helped us meet and exceed our goals in memory of Franny Donahue and Pat Griffin.
A sincere THANK YOU to all who have donated, and to those who know someone they would like to donate for who has, or continues to battle this terrible disease - any donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated. Our Fundraising ends on Saturday August 31, 2024 for Team End ALZ. Here is Our Story …
Alzheimer’s is very near and dear to both sides of our family. We are running in memory of our loved ones, Franny Donahue and Pat Griffin, in this year’s Race.
Franny Donahue was the captain of her high school tennis & field hockey teams, and was a registered nurse who served the Army Nurse Corps, St. Pierre Chain Corp, and private practice, before becoming a loving mom who raised 3 sons with my dad in Worcester MA.
She was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 64. It was 1981, and I had just graduated from college. At that time, very few people understood Alzheimer’s - and how it affected not only the patient, but the immediate family as well. Over time, the sparkle in her eyes slowly drifted away and she succumbed to the disease in 1990.
My Nana Pat (Griffin) was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all.
She was diagnosed with late-stage Dementia and though her memories of family and friends slowly began to fade away, she continued her quick wit, infectious laughter and love for joining in singalongs till the day she passed in 2023.
I never had the opportunity to meet my Nana Franny, but I spent countless hours with Nana Pat, who always found joy in making me smile and laugh.
Connor was blessed with both his grandparents’ traits including the athletic genes of his Nana Franny as well as Nana Pat’s energy, and their love for life that have shaped him into the man he is today.
After running many years in the Falmouth Road Race during my college years, I’m very excited to be running with my son and team partner - in his 1st race from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights, in honor of my mom, and mother in-law.
We appreciate your consideration and donations to support our run as part of Team End ALZ!
We hope to reach and exceed our combined goal of $3,000 in the fight to find a cure for Alzheimer’s!
Cheers,
Dickie & Connor Donahue
