My Story…
This year, I will be participating in the Centre for Suicide Prevention’s Run for Life as a Stand Up Paddleboarder, joining Team Bryak’s Paddle for Life. My efforts will be dedicated to helping promote awareness of the resources available to you or anyone you know who may be struggling and contemplating suicide. You are not alone, and you do not have to go through this struggle alone. If you are in crisis, I urge you to call or text the Suicide Crisis Help-Line at 9-8-8
A branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, The Centre for Suicide Prevention (PSA) is an education center based in Calgary. What I learned from the center:
Suicide is preventable - People who think about suicide don’t want to die – they want the pain of living to end.
Caring interventions save lives - The vast majority of people who receive a caring intervention do not re-attempt.
People considering suicide want an active listening ear more than anything else.
You can help - Caring conversations are powerful connectors – learn how to identify someone who is struggling and skillfully respond by attending learning workshops and by visiting the Centre's extensive library of over 50,000 suicide-related items
And of course Donate now - Education is one of few best practices in suicide prevention. Help the Centre for Suicide Prevention of Calgary educate to save lives.
Donate to help Marie raise money for Run for Life 2024’s fundraising campaign.
