From May 23-May 26, 2024, Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend will need volunteers to help make the 50th anniversary the BEST one yet! We can’t do it without you! Meet new friends, cheer on participants, win exclusive volunteer prizes and HAVE FUN!
When you register, you will be able to choose the area and times you’d like to volunteer in. Please read the position descriptions carefully and ensure you are volunteering in an area that is right for you.
This is an ideal opportunity for high school students 14 years and older to fulfill their Community Involvement Activities required for Ontario Secondary School Diplomas.
Shifts are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
All volunteers will receive an official 2024 TORW shirt. All route volunteers will be provided a safety vest.

Run Ottawa Retail Program
The Run Ottawa retail booth is a major point of contact with the participants at Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend. There are two retail locations during the event. The primary location will be at the Aberdeen Pavilion at the Race Weekend Expo. The second location will be at City Hall during the running events. Bilingualism is an asset as is some retail experience. Some lifting may be required.

Doping Control
Work with CCES lead Doping Control Officer. Assigned to Chaperone athletes selected for doping control from the time they cross the finish line, until they complete. 18 +
Merchandise Booth
Support Race Kit Pick Up/Retail Program in providing pre-purchased merchandise to participants. Looking for fun and positive participants to enhance their pre-race experience!
Information Booth
This position is for individuals that are outgoing, take initiative and are comfortable walking around the event site to support participants, spectators and everyone else! You will be provided a training session along with maps to ensure you are prepared. Don't worry, your team captain will always be onsite to answer any questions you may not have the answer to!

Route Security
Various intersections along the routes will be closed with barricades throughout the weekend. We require individuals to supervise these intersections with the priority being to ensure a safe and secure environment for participants and residents. Route Marshals are also responsible for reporting any medical needs on course. Bring a friend!
Start Line
Start Line crew sets up the area in and around the starting lines. With multiple races and different starting locations plus wave starts this is a busy area on both days. Lifting is required of items up to 25kg.
Baggage Check
We safely store the athletes' bags/belongings in a "bag-check", while they are doing their event. Volunteers are needed with good interpersonal skills along with an ability to work in a team environment. Organizational skills are essential to help arrange bags which are numbered by bib number and are filed accordingly- matching a grid. The ability to lift bags that may be heavy to/from the ground, standing for extended periods of time, and briskly walking between piles of bags, and avoiding possible tripping hazards- will be very crucial to this role. Water Station
Water Stations have the responsibility to provide hydration to the participants along the race routes for the 5K through the Tartan Ottawa International Marathon. Volunteers will be needed to work in pairs and follow directions. Some lifting is required of items up to 15 kg. Please ensure to chose a location that is closest to you (East, Central and West).

Recovery & Refuelling
We are responsible for celebrating the participants by giving them nutrition to help them to replenish their energy after they finish their race! Friday and Saturday morning are spent bagging food. Saturday afternoon/evening and Sunday morning are giving these bags to runners. This is an active, busy area requiring lots of energy from volunteers.
