My Story…
Hey friends,
This year, I’m running the Walnut Creek Turkey Trot 5K, but it’s not just for me — it’s for Rufus, the best boy.
If you ever met Rufus, you know how full of life he was. He had this amazing energy and joy — always ready to chase after anything that moved, from balls to squirrels to even just the wind. He had this unstoppable spirit, and no matter how fast or far the chase, he always gave it his all. That’s the kind of energy I want to bring to this race.
But sadly, Rufus was taken from us far too soon by a life-threatening brain tumor. It all happened so quickly, and it was heartbreaking to see him go. He fought hard, and even in his final days, he still had that spark in his eyes, as if he was ready to run after whatever came next. Running this 5K is my way of honoring his memory — and keeping that chasing spirit alive.
The Walnut Creek Turkey Trot isn’t just about running; it’s about giving back. The proceeds from this race benefit three incredible local charities that are doing amazing things in our community:
White Pony Express: They fight hunger and poverty by providing food and essential services to those who need them most.
Pledge to Humanity: This organization brings aid to underserved communities, locally and globally, through education, healthcare, and sustainable development.
Forma Kids Foundation: They provide children with the resources they need to thrive, from sports programs to mentorship and education.
All the funds raised from this race go directly to these organizations, helping them continue their important work. And in honor of Rufus, I’m hoping to raise as much as we can to support those who need it most.
Here’s how you can help:
If you’re able to, please consider donating to my fundraising page. Every dollar counts and will go directly to supporting these amazing causes. Whether it’s $5, $20, or more, your contribution will make a real difference in the lives of families and children in need.
I’m not going to set any speed records (I’ll probably be taking plenty of walking breaks), but I’m running with all the heart and determination Rufus showed every time he chased after something he loved. I’ll be doing this for him, and for the community.
Thank you for supporting me, and for helping me honor Rufus, the best boy, by giving back to those who need it most. Every step counts, and I’m so grateful to have you by my side in this journey.
Let’s make this Turkey Trot one to remember — for Rufus, and for the community!
