My Story…
Hello friends and family.
As many of you know I have been working with the Distress Centre of Greater Toronto for the past several months. DCGT is a service agency who provides 24/7/365 emotional support, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention to those in crisis, at risk for suicide and those experiencing emotional distress. Our objective is to save lives, foster hope, and build resilience one connection at a time. Our vision is to be the leader in providing innovative crisis and mental health support. With timely access to mental health support, we can eliminate the stigma attached to mental health and illness, along with prevent suicides.
In my short time here, I see and hear firsthand the positive impact of these services. For many we are their lifeline.
Today, I am asking for your support. If you have lost someone you care about to suicide or homicide, or you know someone who is struggling, you understand the number of short- and long-term impacts including the social and mental health impacts. Having open conversations with trusted individuals and peers help people to process their feelings of loss, so that they can feel less isolated and perhaps begin to navigate their journey of healing and loss in a more productive way.
Saturday September 7th, 2024 is our Walk to End Suicide! We are raising awareness about suicide, reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and raising critically needed funds to support our life affirming programs.
Please consider making a worthwhile donation! And if you are available, please come out and join us! It allows people a positive way to support others, or for those of us touched by this more intimately, a sense of not being alone – whether you are a survivor yourself or a survivor of a loss – there is a sense of not feeling alone.
Saturday September 7th 2024 from 10am - 4pm
Sunnyside Park – West Pavilion -1755 Lakeshore Blvd West Toronto
Thank you
Description
Thank you for your generous support of our third annual Walk to End Suicide event. Since we launched this event in 2022, we have been overwhelmed by the support our community has shown in supporting our critically needed, free mental health programs and services.
This event shines a light on World Suicide Prevention Day (Tuesday September 10, 2024) and continues to highlight action that will help reduce the number of suicides and suicide attempts globally, along with continuing to de-stigmatize mental health.
Though the event is just one day, your support resonates every day for those in need.
Thanks again,
Robert Ridge
