My Story…
The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event is a playful opportunity for me to raise awareness in my community about the serious causes, effects, and remediation's to sexualized violence against women. There is an old saying: “You can’t understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” To get people listening, learning, and talking, the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Event will have my favorite men (& yours truly) literally walking A mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. It’s sure not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s an experience around which a lot of education, self-reflection, and change happens.
As I prepare to join my teammates in the most vibrant, oversized red shoes 2024 has to offer, I feel a sense of excitement mixed with determination. Last year, I found myself unexpectedly placing second to last, but this time, I’m fired up to improve my performance! The journey might be treacherous, as navigating in massive high heels is no easy feat, but it's a small price to pay for raising awareness about such a critical issue. Each step I take is a reminder of the strength it takes for women to overcome violence and adversity, and I look forward to contributing to both my physical record and the larger goal of driving change.
Your support in combating domestic violence in Central Alberta means the world to me and countless others who believe in creating a future where every individual feels safe and valued. Let's continue to break the silence and empower one another, one step at a time!
