My Story…
Over the last year, we’ve seen education-focused policy changes rolled out in New Brunswick and Saskatchewan, and deeply troubling policy announcements out of Alberta that are rolling back the human rights of queer and trans students. These policies especially target students under the age of 16 that may not have supportive parents at home. These shifts in the political and social climates across the country have led to educators feeling isolated, and many of them feeling unsafe in the communities that they live and work in. The need for support and connection in this work is higher now than ever before.
With the rise in anti-SOGI rhetoric, and the increased resistance to SOGI-inclusive education, SOGI 1 2 3 provides educators with the necessary tools, resources, and supports to create safer and more inclusive learning environments for 2SLGBTQ+ students and families. Educators need the support of initiatives like SOGI 1 2 3. They need concrete strategies to support 2SLGBTQ+ youth. They need vetted resources to discuss human diversity in the classroom. Most importantly, they need to know they are not alone in this work.
This year, I'm running 5km in the Vancouver Pride Run to raise funds for this cause that I care about so deeply. Will you join me in making a difference for 2SLGBTQ+ youth today and make a donation to ARC Foundation in support of SOGI 1 2 3 to support my fundraising goal?
