My Story…
I truly believe in organ donations and how it saves or improves the life of fellow humans who need organ donations to survive or dramatically improve their living conditions. For many years, I have been signed up as an organ donor (as the pink dot on my driver's license evidences), so that when I'll pass away, medical institutions will be encouraged to collect my good organs to benefit recipients in need.
Are you already registered as an organ donor too? If not, learn about it and join our ranks!
My friends Karlina and Charlie tragically lost their "forever 8 years old" son Andrew to a fatal brain aneurysm 20 years ago. They donated thirteen of his organs and are so thrilled that his liver saved the life of a 49-year old man from Fresno, who would have passed away within 72 hours if he didn't find a matching liver in time. Indeed, he has the very rare B- blood type (<2% of the population), which Andrew also happened to have. Since then, the man has been living a normal and healthy life and the two families have become close friends and go occasionally on vacations together. This now healthy man makes the presence of their son so there with them. Such a beautiful story.
Andrew's kidneys, eyes and other organs have also helped other recipients live a much better life since his donation, and his other organs have been used for medical research.
Karlina invited me to join them and their team of St. Louise Regional Hospital at the 14th Annual Donor Network West Foundation Run/Walk this Saturday September 14 in San Ramon. I told them I will be happy and honored to do so, but since I had to be less than 2 hours later in Saratoga, CA for a good friend's Memorial Service, it would all be quite tight.
I decided to push myself and to jog rather than walk the course. Note to self and all: I NEVER NEVER RUN OR JOG!!!
But the energy of the hundreds of people there rooting for the cause of organ donation gave me so much energy and courage that I DID IT!
I hope that I can now count on you to take your turn and do something for the cause of organ donation, like to make a nice contribution towards my fundraising goal of $2,500 to benefit Donor Network West Foundation...!?
Donor Network West Foundation, the organizers of the fundraiser Run/Walk, does an amazing job at educating people about organ donation, helping facilitate organ donation and supporting donor and recipient candidates and families with the whole process and afterwards.
Thank you for generously donating to our fundraiser. Every contribution you can make will be put to the greatest use, be assured.
ONWARD TO A HEALTHIER LIFE FOR ALL IN NEED !
