2019 is a year I will never forget. The love of my life asked me to marry him -- about three months later, I sustained an injury that resulted in the third concussion I've had over my lifetime.  Within three weeks, I began to develop new and worsening symptoms such as insomnia, dysregulated autonomic nervous system, vertigo, tinnitus, and photosensitivity. Due to my vestibular issues, I was unable to work, drive, and walk straight for nearly three months. After years of poor clinical advice from inexperienced doctors and paramedical professionals, a complete freeze on care during the pandemic, and trying to "wait it out", I finally accessed neurological services at Hamilton Health Sciences and now have an amazing circle of medical and paramedical professionals who helped take me from persistent symptomology to a place where I feel closest to who I used to be before my injury. Hamilton Brain Injury Association helped a great deal in my recovery journey and I am privileged to walk this mile with my friends at HBIA.
