My Story…

I am 1 in 4. I am a statistic that is far too common, and not very talked about.

Mike and I have suffered 3 miscarriages. The unimaginable pain surrounding these losses will forever be in my heart. The pain of always wondering who our babies would have been and what our family would have been like with those babies is something I think about daily. People don't often talk about the struggles in getting pregnant or being able to stay pregnant and how it can change you, but it does. It always will. You never think you're going to be that statistic until you are. Ever since our first miscarriage the idea of getting pregnant still excited me but it also terrified me. The whole mentality of being pregnant is so different. It's so hard; so hard not to feel anxious every waking moment, not to feel scared at every twinge you feel, and to not feel too happy because you feel like you're going to lose your baby again. For us that's what happened. Until we were able to get our support and our fertility treatments that helped as be able to keep our sweet Wynnie to term and be able to have a beautiful and healthy girl.

Finding help and support and trying to get into places to be seen can be difficult with long wait times. You shouldn't have to feel like just another statistic as you lay in the hospital trying to process that your losing your baby, again. You shouldn't have to wait months on end to get in to see a doctor to discuss why this keeps happening and what treatment plans look like. You shouldn't have to grieve your losses quietly.

We count our blessings every day as we now have 2 wonderful and amazing daughters. We are some of the lucky ones. So many people continue to struggle with trying to fulfill their dream of having a family, and our hearts ache for them.

For these reasons Mike and I have joined the Butterfly Run Vancouver 5k run on Oct. 5th in hopes to bring awareness to miscarriage, infant loss and infertility struggles. Funds will be used to help create innovative reproductive mental health resources and supporting women and families to mentally heal after their experience of loss.

Please feel free to donate to our team or join our team for the run! Help support families who have gone through this, are going through this or will go through this.
