My Story…
My Mother was such a humble and modest woman. She was an amazing Mom and was so dedicated to the Odette school of Business and the students she helped. My Mother lost her battle with breast cancer in November 2018. The doctors, nurses and volunteers at Hospice were so incredible and took such amazing care of my Mom in her final days. We are forever grateful. I miss her more than words could ever express. Please help us continue my Mom's legacy. Any contribution you can make is so much appreciated. Thank you so much.
For almost 40 years, Sue Skrobiak was a dedicated Secretary in Odette. Most of that time was spent in the MBA program. Odette veterans and scores of MBA Alumni understand the role that she played in running the program and making the lives of MBA students better.
She died in November 2018 after repeated battles with cancer.
It is impossible to chronicle her impact, so I provide excerpts from an email that one MBA Grad sent to her husband John and her two daughters:
Hello John, I am not sure if you remember me, my name is Alex and I was one of Sue's students.
…I don't know if you know this, but I met Sue during a troubling time in my life. Looking back, I realize that because of her, I was able to find my path which has led me to a successful career and a wonderful marriage. I owe it all to her.
…She believed in me more than I believed in myself... And it was on her birthday in 2005, that I was sure she was going to give up on me like everyone else. But, she not only didn't give up on me, she worked even harder to help me on her own birthday. This is why I would never let a year go by without sending her flowers. She was truly an angel that came in my life and saved me from myself.
…I wanted to send you this note to let you know that she touched many lives and I am living proof of it. I also wanted to let you know that even though her body is gone, her spirit lives on in my heart.
When Sue died, the Odette community decided to do three things.
First, we created the Sue Skrobiak Award – an exclusive award that recognizes individuals and organizations who/that have been dedicated to the Odette MBA.
Second, a Sue Skrobiak MBA Scholarship was created. It goes annually to an MBA student who has shown compassion to fellow students and a dedication to the Odette MBA.
Finally, a fund was established to enhance the MBA study space.
The Odette MBA Society has been dedicated, over the last several years, to honouring her commitment to Odette. With the support of the Skrobiak family, The MBA Society is again hosting STEPS FOR SUE. This fundraising walk helps the Sue Skrobiak Fund and Hospice Windsor…..a centre that helped Sue and her family through the toughest times.
Your support is crucial, whether by participating, attending, and/or donating.
