My Story…
It's that time of the year again... for a second year in a row I will be teaming up to participate in Climbing For Change, a hill climb event where you tackle climbing the elevation profile of the world's highest mountains. Entry to the race is a donation to your charity of choice, plus a commitment to raising funds for your charity of choice.
Last year my good friend Matt Riemer and I completed the Mount Kilimanjaro (5900m) elevation, splitting the 90 hill repeats into 45 laps each, completing the challenge in around 15 hours, climbing over 2950m of elevation each in that time. In doing so we raised funds for Edmonton's Foodbank.
Personally, I found the challenge to be uplifting and a chance for deep reflection. Once the sun goes down and all that's left are you and just a few people doing hill climbs into the night, there's a great emotional clarity you reach. After the challenge I felt more in tune to my physical limits, and really confirmed that I should double down on both mental and physical health as I cruise through what's left of my 30s. Not to be dramatic, but I felt that if I could do this then there's nothing I couldn't accomplish both in my personal and professional life.
This year, we have a team of 4 who will be tackling Mount Rainier (4300m) and I am looking forward to a strategic team effort to completing the challenge as fast as possible, hopefully being the fastest team on the board!
That being said, my goal is to raise $1000 for the Edmonton Foodbank this year under my name, with our team estimating to raise $5000 collectively.
Any support you can provide in helping me reach my fundraising goal is appreciated, we're really hoping to blow past our targets this year. 😊
