Growing up low-income and first-generation comes with a multitude of complex obstacles that can be extremely difficult to work through, as some are invisible, such as the berating or defeatist narrative I still struggle with today, while others are more visible, like being unable to afford classes, clothes, food, or housing. Working with JCYC is meaningful to me because I have an opportunity to empower young students who come from a similar background as me to achieve more than what they thought possible. The purpose of the Aloha Run is raise funds to financially support students' academic and personal success and invest in their futures. No amount is too small!
