My Story…
This year I am participating in Barkapalooza to highlight dogs like Gerald who came to West Suburban Humane Society with heartworm disease. Heartworm disease in dogs is caused by parasitic worms that are spread through mosquito bites. These worms live in the heart, causing severe damage that can lead to heart failure and even death if untreated. Treatment for this disease can be painful for dogs to go through and requires a strict rest period for weeks to reduce complications.
Dogs with heartworm that arrive at WSHS are the lucky ones, because we will always provide "above and beyond" rescue care to treat this disease and ensure that the affected dogs can go on to live full, healthy lives with their forever families. This treatment can cost up to $1500 per dog. Any donation that you are able to make to my page goes directly to the care of the dogs and cats of West Suburban Humane Society. Thank you for considering supporting our mission so that we can keep helping dogs like Gerald!
