ABOUT CAMP KAWARTHA:

Camp Kawartha is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring environmental stewardship and fostering meaningful connections with nature. Through year-round programs including camps, outdoor education programs and workshops, we engage children, youth, and adults in hands-on learning, environmental education, and leadership development. By nurturing empathy, curiosity, and respect for the natural world, Camp Kawartha empowers individuals to become lifelong stewards of the environment.

Reconciling with the Land: Creating Spaces Where Nature and People Thrive Together

Imagine schoolyards transformed into vibrant, living landscapes—places where children can learn, play, and grow while connecting with nature. This project, guided by the wisdom of Curve Lake First Nations, with the expertise of GreenUP, Monarch Ultra and Camp Kawartha, will naturalize school grounds in the Peterborough Region. Together, we’ll create inspiring spaces that foster environmental stewardship, cultural understanding, and hands-on learning. Working hand-in-hand with Curve Lake Nations knowledge holders, students will be directly involved in planning, planting, and caring for these areas. They’ll learn First Nations Ways of knowing and relating to the land. By rewilding, planting native species, establishing pollinator gardens and restoring damaged ecosystems, students will play an active role in creating nature rich learning grounds for their school community. 

The funds will directly go to purchasing native plants to create nature-rich schoolyards that serve as powerful examples of reconciliation with the land—places where people and nature can thrive side by side.

Please note: Camp Kawartha will issue charitable tax receipts for all monetary donations of $25 or more.
