My Story…
Did you know there are only 1.2 headache specialists for every 100,000 migraine sufferers? Over 40 million people are affected by migraine in this country yet there is no cure and not enough specialized research or training. That's why events like these are so important, to raise awareness of these disparities and try to cover the gap. Last year, you helped me win the highest individual fundraiser award, help me do it again!
Personal Update:
This October marks 4 years of disabling pain from migraine. Over these last 4 years, I have gone through a lot of grief, bargaining, and realignment. Only in the last year have I found something closer to acceptance to my newer reality. This season of my life has called upon me to accept 'what is' instead of 'what was' or 'what could be'. This time has also given me many things that I am grateful for including time to slow down, to find everyday joys in my life, to be a caregiver to our child, and to find new purpose. I have returned to volunteering: at the school, our new(ish) queer non-profit, the local food bank, and, soon, as a listener on a crisis hotline. I have also become a devoted gardener, combining by love of nature with my creativity and inclination to tinker and explore. Despite the pain, my world continues to expand and I remain hopeful for lower pain in the future.
