My Story…

I have had a migraine attack 258/262 days this year and a headache every single second of this year. I live with a rare migraine subtype that mimics stroke, migraine with brainstem aura.My year started with a 54-day long attack, where I was having episodes of stroke like symptoms, including loss of consciousness, multiple times a day every day. My PCP, ER doctors, and even the general neurologists I saw were unable to help me. I needed the care of a headache specialist. In January of 2025, the soonest the headache clinic could get me an appointment was October 30th, 2025. Almost 9 months away. The average wait for a headache patient new appointment is somewhere between 8-12 months. Luckily, I was able to be very persistent about calling for cancellations, and was able to get an appointment at the end of February instead. My care at the Mt Sinai Headache Center has helped me come a very long way. Funding for headache centers reduces this wait time and contributes to research efforts.
