My Story…
This will be my third "Walk to End Suicide" with the Distress Centres of Greater Toronto (DCGT).
I was really nervous for the first one and went alone. I hadn't talked openly about my teenage brother's suicide for more than three decades. My little brother Russ died by suicide in 1987. He was 16. Decades later my Mum's youngest brother, my Uncle Roy, also died by suicide.
In 2024 I spoke publicly about the enduring pain of losing Russ and I had my first free suicide loss counselling sessions with the DCGT. There is no timeline for grief.
The DCGT changed my life. This year I will be speaking again on the power of community and giving back to help others.
I will never completely heal but I can work toward healing and I can help others feel less alone.
Please donate and help remove the stigma around suicide prevention. Every little bit helps.
Every day, approximately 12 people in Canada die by suicide and 200 people attempt suicide. Many of us left behind face an increased risk of suicide. Together, we can make a difference.
Donate to help Kirsten raise money for Walk to End Suicide 2025’s fundraising campaign.
