My Story…

I decided to register for Walk to End Suicide 2025 because it hits close to home. There is an enormous amount of stigma and misunderstanding around suicide and talking about feelings of self harm (mental health in general). Suicide is not a bad word..but it can be a scary word. Typically it’s a word that is enveloped in suffering and that can make it tempting to shy away from or hard to address.

Suicidality is a spectrum. There are suicidal thoughts without intent to act on them and suicidal thoughts with intent to act on them. There’s also non-suicidal self harm. All of these should always be taken seriously but knowing the difference can help with having appropriate reactions and adequate safety planning. Here’s some more info on this: https://www.suicideisdifferent.org/suicide-spectrum

I’m raising funds to help support the important work that Distress Centres of Greater Ontario is doing in suicide prevention and intervention. If you can afford to support my fundraising goal or would like to join me in walking, that would mean a lot!

Other ways you can get involved are by considering taking a suicide intervention training. Even better, prompting your workplace, community, friends, and family members to as well. I completed ASIST (applied suicide intervention training) last year and found it to be really practical and insightful. It was moving to see individuals from all walks of life learning about how to support people through suicidal ideation. If you want to check out ASIST here’s a link: https://www.suicideinfo.ca/workshop/asist/

If you or someone you know needs support around mental health, you can absolutely message me anytime. 211 and the suicide intervention hotline 988 are also available.

I’m grateful we get to be alive together, thank you for being here <3
