My Story…
As many of you know, my sister-in-law Lisa died by suicide on December 26, 2019. In the immediate aftermath, our family received support from the Toronto Distress Centre through an incredible program that connects people who’ve also lost someone to suicide. These peer-led sessions were deeply meaningful as we began to navigate life without Lisa. The Distress Centre also provides a 24-hour crisis helpline for individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts. It’s a vital, life-saving service.
This year, we are also walking in memory of Lisa’s father, Arthur, who died by suicide this past November. By speaking honestly, we hope to encourage others to reach out for help—and to remind them they are not alone. Speaking openly and honestly saves lives.
This September, I will walk alongside my brother, Mike, others on Team Haberman, and many others who have been bereaved by suicide to raise money for the Toronto Distress Centre. We walk to remember, we walk to heal, and we walk to save lives.
Many of you supported me last year. I invite you to do so again. Thank you for supporting this important cause.
Each year, approximately 4,500 people die by suicide in Canada.
The ripple effects of these tragedies are profound—impacting tens of thousands of friends, family members, and loved ones left behind.
