My Story…
In April 2025, I stood at the starting line of the Bionic Project Cambridge one-mile walk with forearm crutches, nervous but determined. The rainy air buzzed with energy as I found my rhythm, each step a victory. My hands ached, my legs burned, but I kept going. Crossing the finish line in 1:33:21, I embraced one of my Spaulding Rehab physicians, the same person who once saw me when walking even a few steps seemed impossible. That moment carried years of therapy, setbacks, and resilience.
Five months later, I was on Fifth Avenue for the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile. Rain poured again as my crutches clicked against the wet pavement. I finished in 1:04:14, soaked but smiling, proof that even in tough conditions, I could keep moving forward.
The next goal: a Bionic Project 5K in San Francisco. This time, I don’t just wonder if it’s possible. I know it is.
The Bionic Project, founded by runner and below-the-knee amputee Will Borden, celebrates inclusion in athletics, where determination matters more than distance, and showing up is just as meaningful as crossing the finish line.
