My Story…
I was 15 when I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. Episodes of me disconnecting from the important people in my life happened throughout high school because I would convince myself that I had nothing good to offer. I felt hopeless and dreaded having to continue trying to be a “perfect person”all the time.
I have come a long way since then with the immense help and support of my family. I was able to see a psychiatrist and was prescribed antidepressants which took a while to have any effect. I have found after being on medication for years now that I am seeing life in a new light and am no longer hyper focused on setting unattainable expectations for myself. I am feeling like I can do something positive with my life and I’m running this half-marathon for those who continue to cope everyday with mental illness.
