My Story…
Advancement in cancer care cannot happen without courageous patients and families, creative and passionate researchers, and compassionate people willing to contribute to something that benefits a stranger.
I have the privilege to care for patients that courageously participate in clinical trials for cancer - and many have been cured through a novel treatment - and thankfully I continue to see them many years later. I often thank them, telling them that through their courage they have enabled so many others around the world to be cured as well because this trial option is now an approved treatment - they just may never have the chance to meet those lives they impacted in such a significant way.
Fundraisers like this for Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center provide that same opportunity. New treatments, and cures, do not occur without funding clinical research and advances in care. Contributing to these efforts enables us all to join together in impacting someone's life, someone's family, even if we may never get to meet them. Cancer is indiscriminate, cruel, and persistent and it is only with our collective efforts that we will continue to make progress.
I run to celebrate the many successes, for the hope of future progress, and to express the sadness in too many lives ended too soon because we have so many more improvements to make.
