We are walking in memory of my firstborn daughter, Eleanor. At 24 weeks, we learned that she had a rare congenital heart defect called Truncus Arteriosus. We began preparing to deliver her 350 miles away from our home at a children’s hospital that could handle her open heart surgery immediately after birth. That day would never come. At 30 weeks, our Eleanor was born sleeping. The Lord had called her to her forever home. This was almost 6 years ago. The hospital where she was delivered was not yet a partner of Rachel’s Gift, but I sure wish they were. While we had some wonderful people a part of our care team, we also had some folks that had no idea what to say to us and others completely unaware that we had lost our baby. I support Rachel’s Gift because the training and support they provide to hospital staff can make a world of difference for grieving parents.
