My Story…
Hi All,
Many of you know that January 2025 was a rough time for us. I needed to make something meaningful out of that experience, so I decided then to do the Brockville Butterfly Run.
Poetry is how I process, so I thought I would share a poem I wrote on January 20, 2025. I will be doing the 5km if you want to support me (although J is coming with me too).
Burden
I know that many
Will choose to keep under wraps
Not let loose in the world
This dark heavy thing
That happened to them.
With my option to share
Expose my experience
And the fragile silk on which I balance
Comes the possibility
That the net I've built myself may break.
But with every strand I throw out
A new connection forms
Holding this unknown weight
With less effort
Than a single strand alone could bear.
~ J
I thought I'd add another poem... since I actually wrote a lot of them. This one is from January 22, 2025.
Frustration
It seems two grocery stores was too many
That’s the way that this story begins
I just wanted a snack, but I’ve set myself back
In the race I’ve run nobody wins.
I had surgery over a week ago
I’ve been building my stamina since
I thought two would be fine; it’s just standing in line
My stupidity’s making me wince.
And I guess if the second weren’t Walmart,
It all might have turned out okay
But to stroll down each aisle; well, it did take a while
A new debt that my body will pay.
Now I lie on my bed on my heat-pad
A position I’ve come to know well
Shoved back on the path, feel my abdomen’s wrath
In this lengthened recovery hell.
~ J
