My Story…
What is ARYSE?
The Alliance for Refugee Youth Support & Education (ARYSE) is a Pittsburgh nonprofit that ensures immigrant and refugee youth become engaged, confident, and celebrated members of our communities. Originally started as a grassroots effort in 2013, ARYSE is now recognized as the premiere out-of-school-time resource for immigrant and refugee youth in grades 6-12. Programs include the summer time PRYSE Academy, an arts-focused Girls Art and Maker Group, an academic and career readiness program, an advocacy and affinity group for LGBTQ+ and Queer Youth, and a uniquely tailored program to help recently resettled youth from Afghanistan.
How will your donation help?
In 2020, I had the pleasure of working directly with ARYSE as Co-Director of PRYSE Academy. In this role, I witnessed the joy, creativity, and wisdom of ARYSE youth at first hand. Your donation will support PRYSE Academy, ensuring that this 7-week summer camp remains completely free of cost for immigrant and refugee youth in grades 6-12.
If you're still not convinced....
The Pittsburgh Marathon is basically my birthday party - after all, it created a bit of a logistical nightmare for my parents trying to leave West Penn Hospital back in '98. If you want to get me a birthday gift, a donation to ARYSE is at the top of my list this year 🥳
Description
This year, our goal is to raise at least $30,000 through the marathon campaign, which will cover the essential expenses for our program like student transportation, interpretation and translation services, hot meals, and personnel. Thanks to donations from hundreds of individuals and local foundations, the program is completely free of cost to participants. Support from our marathon runners and their networks will help us keep it that way.
