Calgary Meals On Wheels

Calgary Meals on Wheels has been a beacon of support for Calgarians facing food insecurity since its establishment in 1965. Our mission is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves access to nutritious meals, regardless of their age or income level. Through our fee-for-service model and free programs, we ensure that our meals are accessible to anyone in need, providing a crucial service within Calgary's charitable food-security landscape. Our organization offers a range of programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of our community. 

• The Chef's Daily Special Program provides fresh-chilled meals 365 days a year to around 1000 clients, following a set delivery schedule and offering subsidies based on clients' income levels. 
• The Going Home Program, in collaboration with Alberta Health Services, supports seniors discharged from hospitals by providing free meals for 30 days, serving 476 clients in 2023. 
• Our My Choice Menu Program offers affordable fresh-frozen meals on a flexible a-la-carte delivery schedule, catering to 1130 unique clients in 2023. 
• Group Programs extend meal services to organizations lacking resources to produce meals, serving over 80,000 group meals in 2023. 
• Student Nutrition Program offers hot or cold meals to 50 schools in 2023, funded by provincial support, ensuring students without packed lunches have access to food.
• The Hot Soup Program provides 14 schools identified by the Calgary and Catholic school boards, with high rates of food insecurity with hot soup lunches twice a week at no cost. Together these programs benefit over 4,190 students monthly. 

Beyond meal delivery, our programs offer holistic support, including nutritional guidance, social interaction, informal well-being checks, and support for independence. Our dedicated staff and volunteers actively engage with the community, advocating for awareness and action against food insecurity in Calgary.
