My Story…
Hi, I’m Janna Severson (Ogle) and I’m proud to be running the Calgary Marathon in support of Indspire – an organization that is directly helping me and countless other Indigenous students pursue our dreams through education.
As a Lakota Sioux woman from Wood Mountain Lakota First Nation in southern Saskatchewan, running is in my blood. I connect with motion and I keep going – not just on the trail, but in life. I’ve overcome many barriers to get to where I am today. Despite the challenges, I held onto my dream: to become a lawyer.
At 44, with the support of Indspire, I’m finally able to return to school and follow that path. I’m currently studying to become a civil lawyer, with the goal of advocating for Indigenous peoples across Canada – to be a voice for the voiceless and help bring justice to our communities.
Running this marathon is more than a personal challenge – it’s a way to give back. Indspire has helped open the door for me, and now I want to help open it for others. Every dollar you donate goes toward empowering Indigenous students like me to keep going – to run our races, pursue our dreams, and change our communities.
Thank you for supporting this journey.
