My Story…

This 5K is kind of a big deal for me. With my history of six spinal surgeries and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, its a lot to be training to walk aggressively for a 5K. I cannot run.

Our group, Dash for David (https://mygiving.rmhcbayarea.org/page/dash-for-david?_gl=1%2A1x9gb97%2A_ga%2AMTY0Nzc4NTgyMS4xNzM5NTg0NDEy%2A_ga_3223608EP7%2AMTczOTU4NDQxMi4xLjAuMTczOTU4NDQxMi42MC4wLjA&fbclid=IwY2xjawIkdlxleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHXiKkpvPzj8O_e1KUk5LhnSjSPRzIZGpPWS6dozbJ7-V_v7thMCKLmiJ2w_aem_1LNqi_DQudWX_mQIDNh5cg), is what has inspired this 'run.' Our group is celebrating the life of our high school friend David Freedman who was diagnosed with leukemia our senior year. Their family left for the Mayo Clinic the day after graduation for a bone marrow transplant. We celebrated David's life that October.

David's parents have been supporters of the Ronald McDonald House at Children's Hospital Oakland ever since. I love and adore Deana and Harvey. Deana especially was good to me when I moved to Piedmont in seventh grade. Carter knew Harvey while working with him at Highland Hospital for decades.

Supporting the Ronald McDonald house means even more to me since Carter's battles with his cancers the last few years. Cancer support services are INVALUABLE when families are struggling. They mean EVERYTHING.

Please give. Please support me for this 5K by supporting the Dash for David fund. Thank you. - Julia
