My Story…
Like so many others, cancer has had a huge impact on my life. I lost my mum to cancer when I was 13 and my dear friend Stacey when she was just 36. I am also a former firefighter. Because of our occupation, firefighters have significantly greater risk of developing cancer during their lifetime. So many ex colleagues have either died from cancer or are travelling their own cancer journeys. This ride is for all of those people. It is also for me - to cycle for a cause in which I am passionate about, to experience the beautiful country around my old university town and to get back on a bike for the first time with a titanium hip and a hamstring that is clinging on by a single thread! When I cycled across Australia in 2021 it was the 'Why' that got me through and I know it will do the same again. Whatever struggle I might come across, I know it's nothing compared to the physical, emotional and psychological challenges of cancer. A heartfelt thank you for your support.
