My Story…
Dear friends, family, and colleagues,
Ten years ago, my world changed in a way I could never have imagined. A rare condition called TENS (Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis) took away my eyesight — suddenly, painfully, and permanently.
But it didn’t take me.
Since then, I’ve learned how to navigate a new world. I’ve stumbled, I’ve grown, and I’ve found community in places I never expected — including on the back of a tandem bicycle.
At 61 (though I swear I feel more like 16 most days!), I’ve decided to take on a challenge that fills me with excitement, nerves, and pride: cycling 130 km from Toronto to Collingwood as part of EyeRide 2025 on June 21st — the first day of summer.
This ride brings together blind and sighted athletes to raise funds for two organizations that have made an enormous difference in my life: BALANCE for Blind Adults and TRAILBLAZERS Tandem Cycling Club. Thanks to them, I’ve rediscovered the freedom and joy of cycling. They match blind riders like me with amazing sighted volunteers so we can ride safely — and powerfully — together.
This isn’t just a fundraiser. It’s deeply personal. It’s about pushing limits, building community, and showing what’s possible even when life doesn’t go to plan.
🙏 If you’re able to support me with a donation — big or small — it would mean the world.
Thank you for being in my life, for cheering me on, and for helping build a world where people with vision loss can thrive.
With gratitude,
Le Roi
Description
Why I’m Participating in EyeRide 2025
On June 21, 2025, our riders will be participating in EyeRide 2025, an event that’s so much more than just kilometres on a bike. It’s about strengthening community, building resilience, and making a real difference for the blind and low-vision community.
Our riders will be cycling 65 km from Toronto to Alliston or 130 km from Toronto to Collingwood alongside both sighted and visually impaired athletes and avid riders. Together, they’ll push past limits, share stories, and support two small yet mighty organizations, both of which are registered charities.
1) BALANCE for Blind Adults provides essential services to help individuals living with vision loss lead independent and fulfilling lives. From rehabilitation and employment support to counseling and mental health programs, BALANCE empowers their clients to navigate life with confidence. This year’s raised funds will assist mental health and well-being programs, led by professionals with lived experience of blindness.
2) TRAILBLAZERS Tandem Cycling Club enables blind and partially sighted cyclists the freedom to ride with sighted volunteers on tandem bikes. This year’s raised funds will assist rejuvenating TRAILBLAZERS’ fleet of aging tandem bikes so they can safely support the mental and physical health of the vision loss community for years to come.
EyeRide isn’t just about raising funds. It creates opportunities and breaks barriers for the vision loss community.
Please join us in supporting this amazing cause. Every donation, no matter the size, helps create a world where everyone can thrive.
Thank you for your generosity!
