My Story…
In addition to being a long-standing member and current Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation, I have reasons to be the Bay Race co-Community Champion this year. A surgical repair of my torn Achilles tendon performed by Dr. Anthony Adili is the reason why I’m able to take part in the Bay Race again. As well, this year funds raised through the race are supporting the Hospital’s robotic surgery program. This matters to me for two reasons: First, my brother passed away of an aggressive form of inoperable colon cancer when he was just 38. In speaking with some of the surgeons at St. Joe’s, I understand that robotic surgery may one day make that kind of inoperable cancer - operable. And second, my son lives with an auto-immune disorder that means he may need joint replacements early in his life. These, too, are done robotically at St. Joe’s. So, for the care I’ve received, and for the care that my son and so many others may one day receive there, I’m honoured to co-champion the Bay Race and St. Joe’s fundraising efforts this year.
Description
Welcome to my fundraising page!
This year, I’m taking on the Around the Bay Road Race (ATB) and raising funds to support St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation. St. Joe’s is in many ways the heart of Hamilton – nearly everyone in our community has been touched by the incredible patient care they provide.
Your donation to my run will support the robotic surgery revolution underway at St. Joe’s. Over the past 12 years, more than 4,500 people have received robotic surgery and dozens of research studies have shown they’re experiencing smaller incisions that heal faster, with less scarring, and reduce the chance of infection, too. But what’s more, is that robotic surgery patients are going home sooner, with fewer post-operative complications and a quicker return to their lives and families.
Here’s the challenge: Robotic surgery is so new that only 3 of the 10 types of robotic surgery performed at St. Joe’s are funded by the province. For surgeries to help those needing a hip or knee replacement, and to treat those living with oral, esophageal, lung and bladder cancers, the Hospital relies on donations to events like the Bay Race. Let’s bring the power of robotic surgery to every patient who would benefit from it.
Thank you for donating to my run and for fueling the future of care at St. Joe’s.
