My Story…
Greetings! I am a Stage 4 colorectal cancer patient living in Edmonton, Alberta. My wife Jasmine and I have two children: Byron, aged 11 and Julianne, aged 8. My family have been my biggest source of encouragement and inspiration. I am currently on a break from systemic treatment and I work full-time as a Senior Policy Analyst with the Government of Alberta.
Diagnosed with colon cancer at Stage 3 initially in June 2022 at age 41, I underwent a successful colon resection surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy. I spent a year off treatment and enjoying life. Unfortunately, 18 months later, the disease was found to have spread to my liver and nearby lymph nodes. I then underwent a liver resection, a difficult surgery. I had affected lymph nodes in my abdomen and underwent 18 rounds of systemic treatment (chemotherapy). I am currently on a break from treatment and hoping that my good health lasts but aware that my disease will likely return at some point.
I hope to regain my health for the long term and to be off treatment for good. I understand the young-onset patient experience well. I advocate for aggressive, curative treatments for myself and other under-50 CRC patients who may also have young families, careers, and potentially decades left to live.
